Here are a few more tips on how to be a more effective leader out on the river:

  1. Communicate clearly and regularly: Communication is essential to effective leadership, especially when working with people who have less experience. Be clear about your expectations, goals, and priorities, and provide regular feedback to help your team members improve.
  2. Set clear goals and expectations: Set achievable goals and expectations for your crew. Ensure that they are specific, measurable, and realistic. Provide support and guidance to help them achieve their goals.
  3. Offer guidance and support: Be available to your crew when they need guidance or support. Provide mentorship and training to help them improve their skills and knowledge.
  4. Lead by example: Lead by example and set a positive tone on the boat. Demonstrate the behaviors and attitudes that you expect from your crew.
  5. Build trust and respect: Build trust and respect with your crew by being honest, transparent, and reliable. Encourage open and honest communication and treat everyone with respect.
  6. Celebrate successes: Celebrate your crew's successes and acknowledge their hard work and achievements.
